Anthropology.. Is that like, spiders?

Anthropology is the study of humans past and present. It includes four sub-fields and a great deal of specializations. I’m particularly fond of cultural anthropology as it relates to the human process of mind. Ethnocentrism and cultural relativity are among the best concepts I learned during my undergrad.

Ethnocentrism is the idea some humans hold that their own culture makes more sense than other cultures, or is the ideal that all others should aspire to. This opinion can lead to all manner of transgressions against others, as well as complexes within one’s self.

So, how does one avoid ethnocentrism if one were so inclined?

Learn the valuable practice of cultural relativity when interacting with other people. Try to understand their behavior from their cultural experience, not your own.
